Jumping the Dragons

The office air-con is pretty freezing today, putting the dragonbackmedian into a drowsy trance. I figure it will be good to walk around the lair and to get the blood flowing, meanwhile surprising a few fellow dragonbackmedian out of hibernation.

With a handy digital camera, I begin my round around the hive of cubicles. Most were immediately alerted by the sight the camera in my hand and have either disappear from view or when back to their duty. But I did manage to caught 2 dragonbackmedian off guard and here are their photo.

UK Goverment fully supports Games!

It is good news indeed for once to see such entheastic support from the goverment party for the gaming industry, even if it is from the other side of the globe. With many possitive reports on gaming from the medical field and the finanacial sector, the game industry is still overshadowed by critics.

Shaun Woodward, UK’s Minister for creative industries and tourism states that the game industry is “one of our most important creative industries, and one at which the UK excels”. Meanwhile, Paul Jackson chairman of British Academy of Film and Television Arts(BAFTA)’ games committee provide further encourage ment to the game industry by saying “Games now make up a huge part of entertainment and spending across all age groups… The creative lines have blurred, and the synergies between the industries of games, film and television are now many.” during a discussion on BAFTA’s plans to host a new videogames awards ceremony on October 5.

Gaming in Help

We were at HELP University College on 24th & 28th August 2006 at the Video Game and Interactive Media(ViGIM) Department show casing our service as well as promoting the video games industry. The students over at HELP were excited that such a service was available in Malaysia that they ended up sitting down in front of the PC for hours on end and not willing to leave even for class.

Researchers has always been intrigued by the effect of playing video games, whether it is negative or possitive. The media is often fill with negative reports of video game, but for once game have make a comeback as a tool to help doctors reduce pain in patients as well as perk up depression associated with cancer.
